The principles of the Science-Based Target initiative to reduce our corporate emissions

To contribute to the world’s ambitious climate goals, we have chosen to follow the principles of the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and WWF that helps companies set a path to reduce their emissions based on science and in line with the Paris Agreement.

What are near-term science-based targets?
These are targets that define what we will do immediately and over the next 5-10 years to reduce our emissions by 2030.
These are targets that define what we will do immediately and over the next 5-10 years to reduce our emissions by 2030.
Scope 1

Emissions associated with the use of fossil fuels for company vehicles or boilers for heating or production, leaks of refrigerant gases used in cooling systems, or emissions from the manufacturing process.

Scope 2

Emissions resulting from the production of electricity, steam, or heat by third parties at locations other than the site of use, but in any case borne by the company as the end user.

Scope 3

Emissions generated within the Company’s value chain, both upstream and downstream. Even if they are generated by facilities or processes not directly controlled by the company, they are attributable to the company’s activities and are often the most relevant category in terms of quantity.

In December 2023, after a rigorous validation process, the SBTi approved our near-term science-based targets, which will allow us to develop an emissions reduction plan based on climate science. Together with the other SMEs joining the initiative, we are committed to reducing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% compared to 2021, as well as measuring and reducing our Scope 3 emissions.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE AND
WHAT WE WILL DO

Based on the data available in 2021, we have:

Identified the most impactful activities relating to Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions

The objective of 42% has been set for the absolute reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions

A process has been started to define a Scope 3 emissions reduction plan

From now on, we are also committed to reporting company-wide emissions and progress against targets on an annual basis.

A new photovoltaic system on the roof of our warehouses

Renewable energy from the sun to reduce our direct emissions

In 2023, we completed the installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof of our warehouse to take a step toward reducing direct emissions based on near-term, science-based targets. The 124kW system, consisting of 310 400W photovoltaic modules, was a decisive step to start using alternative energy sources to fossil fuels. With this choice, we estimate that we will produce 50% of our total energy consumption. The performance of our system is monitored through an online system that allows you to know in real time the power and amount of energy produced, as well as the CO₂ emissions avoided.
